Click-to-call not working on your website? Here's how to check
On a phone, your number should be one tap away. If it is not clickable, or the button dials a different number from the one you print, some customers will simply move on to the next company.
The 3-second test
Open your website on your phone and tap your phone number. The dialer should open with the right number already in it. Do this on your homepage, contact page and any quote or service pages.
What we often find
- Numbers shown as plain text, so they can't be tapped
- "Call Us" buttons with an empty link that just reload the page
- A call button that dials a different number from the one printed on the page
- Numbers only inside an image, which can't be tapped at all
The fix
Link every phone number with a tap-to-call link, for example <a href="tel:+15555550100">(555) 555-0100</a>, and make sure the digits in the link match the number you print. Put one in your header so it is always on screen.

Common questions
Why is my phone number not clickable on my website?
It is usually plain text instead of a tap-to-call (tel:) link, or it is inside an image. Linking it with tel: plus your full number fixes it.
How do I make a phone number clickable?
Wrap it in a tel: link with your full number, and check that the digits match the number printed on the page.
Can you check all my call buttons?
Yes. The US$97 Lead-Leak Audit checks every call, quote, book and email path on mobile and desktop.
