Website contact form not working? How to find where the leads go

A contact form can look fine and still lose customers. Sometimes it errors, sometimes the message never reaches a person, and sometimes the customer never learns what happens next. Here is how to check yours in about ten minutes.

Step 1: Submit a real test

Fill out your own form the way a customer would, on your phone and on a computer, using an email address you can check. Actually send it.

Step 2: Check what the customer sees

After you hit Send, is there a clear confirmation? Does it say when someone will reply? If the page just reloads, customers can't tell whether it worked. Some submit twice and some leave.

Step 3: Find where the notification went

Check every inbox that might receive it, plus spam. Old employee addresses, shared inboxes and "noreply" settings are common reasons form messages go unseen.

Step 4: Time it

Note when you sent the test and when someone on your team actually saw it. That gap is how long a real customer waits before anyone knows they asked.

Step 5: Check the auto-reply

A short auto-reply ("Got it, we'll call you by 3 pm on business days") reassures the customer and cuts duplicate requests.
